We would like to raise them as pets so are looking for goats with friendly personalities. We live in southeast Wisconsin. Would you have goats available or could you recommend a good source? Any help you can offer will be appreciated!!

Hello,

My name is Barbara Harrington. I live in Braham, MN. I have been wanting goats for a long time now. After a lot of thought I have settled on Nigerians as my breed of choice. I was thinking LaManchas, but I think the mini size along with the wonderful dairy quality of the Nigerians would be ideal for my needs.

I would like to talk to you about buying a doeling and a wether, or if I can afford it, 2 doelings. I have never had goats before, but have done extensive reading and research on the subject. I have had horses, cattle, and presently I have poultry and show dogs.

I am looking for goats for milk, of course. I'm not really interested in showing at this time, but that could very easily change in the future. I show dogs, along with my granddaughter. I can see that unlike dogs, buying a good show quality goat is directly related to the function of the animal. With dogs, the best show winner is usually not related to the actual working usefulness of the dog. I have a Champion mini dachshund who is a wonderful show dog, but couldn't track a rabbit if his life depended on it. : )

I would like to start with kids, because I really want the full experience of raising the babies. I'm hoping I could arrange to have it bred by you when the time comes, and then start the kidding and milking next year when she freshens. Or possibly a doeling and an older doe?

I have grandchildren who will just adore raising the babies just as much as I will. I don't think we will be needing a lot of milk, but just enough for the family, for making soap, and maybe cheese.

It would be wonderful if you could call or email me sometime, so we could get together and talk about this. I do have the money for a kid resevation.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Barbara
